| To
find the centre of gravity of a flat card shape |

- Carefully
cut out the ''Winnie the Pooh' picture.
- Hang
the picture vertically from a pinpoint as shown in the diagram. Make
sure it can swing freely!
- Mark
the position of the plumbline with three small crosses.
- Remove
the card from the retort stand. Care you don't prick yourself with
the pin!
- Using
a ruler, draw a line right across the shape so that it passes through
each of the crosses.
- Repeat
this for another pinpoint (so that it hangs in a totally different
direction)
- The
point where the lines cross is the centre of gravity of the shape
- you should be able to balance it at that point - try standing it
on the end of your pencil!
